Lurker's Prey

In the shallows it waits,
Just lurking in the mist that covers,
It's eyes piercing red and pulsing,
Pulsing for its prey as it sit patiently,
Dare not disturb this creature,
For it is said to that of legends,
A monster so fierce that is may just take small children,
Just as the eyes move across the water,
It's prey lands nestling in to the slow current of the stream,
The tall grass just parting slowly as it moves forward,
The jaws starting to clinch and the mouth starting to water,
The heart pounding deep inside it's chest,
And then the prey takes off once more,
A small grunt is muffled by the shallow pool,
So again this lurker waits for it's prey
